Chimpanzee trekking

Chimpanzee trekking is a must-do safari activity on any Kibale National Park tour. About 4-5 habituated chimpanzee communities survive in the scenic Kibale Forest National Park.

The popular chimpanzee communities to expect to visit include Buranga and Kanyanchu. The actual chimpanzee trekking session starts with an orientation about guidelines, also referred to as dos and don’ts.

The park officials from the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) who are present at the Kanyanchu Visitor Centre take you through the process, including allocating you a guide and a chimpanzee community.

The actual visit to see Kibale chimpanzees begins at around 8:00 am and can run for a duration of 2-4 hours. The chimpanzee interaction includes exploring the social structure of chimps in the wild and taking pictures.
